Elaine Griffith

I began painting classes at 11 and when I sold my first piece of artwork at 14 years old I knew I wanted to make this my living. I graduated in 1972 from the School of the Worcester Art Museum with the Washburn Award for Excellence. Shortly after I moved with my new husband to rural Indiana I accepted commissions for portraits, etc. I exhibited in numerous shows and received awards and was given a solo show at the Honeywell Memorial Art Center, along with a visiting artist appointment in the school. After we moved back to Massachusetts in 1980 I exhibited and won awards (First Place, Best in Show, Honorable Mention) in group shows, 3-woman shows and four solo shows in the Worcester County area. I had artwork in galleries in Nantucket MA, Durango, CO, and 3 Worcester county gallery locations. I have collectors nationally and internationally.

As my husband and I raised 3 children I kept busy with commissions. My two passions led me to begin two small businesses. Both helped people improve their lives. One business was sharing my knowledge of how to use herbal medicine. My other business, Art is 4 Every1, also helped people improve their lives I discovered. As they learn to see the world thru an artist’s eyes their life view becomes more colorful as they begin to really observe their surroundings. I first started teaching in a nursing home in 1987. I quickly realized I needed a new way to teach people who had no art experience, or had cognitive or physical disabilities. I developed my own special method to teach people to paint and I saw it change lives of people who never realized they could learn to paint. Their self esteem rises as they are in awe of what they can create. For nearly 40 years I taught people of many ages, from 9 to 102 who created amazing paintings they are truly proud of. Experienced painters also liked the Method as they found they could work with acrylics with freedom and make changes easily. My Art is 4 Every1 business grew to teaching 14 classes a week. I could not keep up with the demand and in 2010 I began offering training classes for artists wanting their own teaching business. My courses for artists and non-artists are currently online at www.artis4every1.com.

Now semi-retired from my weekly teaching I am finally returning to creating my own art, not just with continued commissions but finally from my own sources of inspiration again. My new work will soon be exhibited along with my earlier work now available at www.griffithgalleries.com. I share this website with my recently deceased son, Cale Griffith who was known for his large abstract work and intriguing digital pieces. Combining his work together with my own traditional style art and my mixed media style art the viewer can experience “Both Ends of the Spectrum”.

I look forward to being active in the art communities I have missed while my life demanded making a steady income teaching art, herbal consulting and caregiving my family at their many stages of life till just recently.
