NOTES ABOUT CLASSES

Our professional art instructors teach in a friendly, and relaxed environment. Class emphasis is always on the individual student’s creative development and growth with courses for adults and young adults with all skill levels and experience.

Essential Oils Make-N-Take for Kids!
Wednesday, August 16th, 10am-11am “Back to School” theme

Essential Oils for KidsHey Kids! Learn the benefits of using essential oils with educator Kerri Mahn. Kids will come home with two concoctions they have made themselves. A roll-on Happy Stick and a Poop Spray (for the toilet) during the first workshop on 6/28 and for the back to school workshop on 8/16 a Get it Done roll-on and Lemony Hand Scrub.

Masters in the Morning—Fridays

Tuition: $360 for 12 classes ($350 for each additional sibling)
Maximum 12 students
Includes: all materials, and a Masters in the Morning sketchbook.

Schedule:
9am–12pm: Art Class
Noon–1:30pm: Lunch and recess at Grenville Park—Kids LOVE walking down to Grenville for a game of kickball, soccer, basketball, or playground fun! If you’d like to participate in lunch and recess, please sign-up to chaperone a few times during the session.

Our Friday group is geared toward slightly older homeschoolers. We’ll start the fall session meeting Masters of the Rennaisance: Michaelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo and Donatello! Students will try their hand at fresco painting, and learn about drawing proportions and gestures while studying the Mona Lisa and the Vitruvian Man.  We’ll then jump ahead and learn about modern artists and styles inspired by these Renaissance Masters. This class is three weeks on and one week off to make time for the monthly Cultural Arts Class.

Our Wednesday group is geared towards younger homeschoolers. We’ll start off the year meeting Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Ghiberti! Students will see what it must have been like for Michelangelo to paint the Sistine Chapel, paint their own Mona Lisa, and make a plaster bas relief inspired by the Gates of Paradise. From there we’ll meet artists such as Degas and Rousseau, and explore many different mediums along the way. The class is three weeks on, one week off to make time for the Cultural Arts Class.

Masters in the Morning—Cultural Arts Day

Dates: Sep 29, Oct 27, Dec 22
Time: 9am–3pm
Tuition: $165 for 3 classes or $60 per class
Maximum 15 students

The last Friday of each month we will travel to a new place and learn about their culture through art, music, games and food! We will begin our journey in the Americas, then after the holidays head on over to Europe, Asia and Africa! Each day starts with a visual presentation, followed by a cooking class, arts and crafts, music and games and we will regularly have guest artists, speakers or demonstrations from cultural groups. We tend to pack a lot of fun and learning in a day, as well as outdoor time at Grenville park.

Sep 29th: Northern Native Americans: Wampum Weaving and Woodcarving!
Oct 27th: Central & South America: Music, Mole and Molas!
Dec 22nd: Christmas Around the World! From Wacky to Wonderful holiday traditions!

The Fundamentals of Drawing

Tuition: $125 non-members, $100 members of Workshop13

Learn the basics of still life in this drawing course, suitable for beginners and any level of artistic training. Beginner students will leave this course with a solid understanding of the basics of drawing, while advanced students will learn how to push the boundaries of their skills.The beginning of the course will focus on line drawing and accurate proportions, the middle will explore tone and it’s relation to mimicking the effects of light, and students will finish by perfecting their rendering technique to make their drawing look convincingly 3-D. Each day will begin with a short exercise, designed to introduce students to all the essential drawing concepts in a memorable way.
