Our professional art instructors teach in a friendly, and relaxed environment. Class emphasis is always on the individual student’s creative development and growth with courses for adults and young adults with all skill levels and experience.

In this ongoing class, world-renowned fantasy artist Gary Lippincott is here to assist and critique your current project, and if you ask nicely, he might show you how he would do it if he were you!   Current students are working on illustrating a children’s book, small scale sculpting, watercolor, and sketching, all mediums that Gary is an expert in! This is a laid back class where you can get the assistance you need to take your art to the next level.

Painting with oils is far easier than you might think and incredibly satisfying! Three different oil painting techniques, monochromatic, oil washes and abstract realism will be taught with this hands-on approach. Bring your paints and brushes, and leave with new skills to add to your portfolio!

Watercolor For Beginners with Drawing – $125 Non Member / $100 Member – 101SH

Susan Harris has been offering a beginner watercolor class for some time. This new class format provides the beginner with continued lessons in watercolor in addition to drawing landscape and composition in order to complete a painting from start to finish.  First session includes the completion of the drawing to be painted.  If you wish to attend all sessions but would rather the sketch be provided, please indicate when you sign up and the sketch will be provided. Either way Susan will get you excited about watercolor painting!  This photo is the subject matter for the painting. All materials are included!

The Basics of Drawing— $125 Non Member / $100 Member

This course will cover the basics of drawing in a variety of subjects, each subject focusing on new concepts and techniques to add to your skill-set. The first session will be four weeks of figure-drawing, where we will explore gesture, line-drawing, and artistic anatomy. The second session will be four weeks of portraiture, where we will focus on proportions, capturing likeness, and creating a realistic finish and sense of form. The entire course will focus on creating an understanding of the drawing method, from start to finish. By the end of this course the student will have a strong step-by-step method to fall back on as they approach their own work, as well as an extensive understanding of the concepts of drawing.

Figure Drawing at Workshop13Drawing sessions start with two or three short poses and one long pose around 2 1/2 hrs. Material List: • Sketch Pad • Drawing Materials of your choice: pastels, pencils, conte crayons, charcoal etc.

Color Mixing – Limited Palette/ $65

The Limited Palette, famously used by Anders Zorn, gets at the heart of the nature of light and color. Using only the primary colors, the artist is compelled to interpret what he sees, instead of copy. In the process, he or she gains a deep understanding of how all colors are connected and relate to each other. In this one-day course students will learn applicable methods to push the boundaries of the limited palette, all the while exploring color theory and the inner workings of light, form and color.

Everything you want to know about Figure Drawing in a Day!

This One-Day course will teach you everything you want to know about figure-drawing in a day. Using an traditional academic method, we will draw a convincing figure from start to finish. Along the way we will cover a variety of topics, beginning with gesture, proportions, line-drawing, and anatomy. Next we will explore tone and its relationship to light, and lastly we will finish by creating a convincing sense of 3-Dimensional form. This course is perfect for anyone who wants to know all there is to know about figure-drawing.

Alla-Prima Oil-Painting Workshop-$100 Non-Member/ $80 Member

“Alla-Prima”, Italian for “In-One-Go”, is the method of starting and finishing a painting in one sitting. When painting Alla Prima, the artist must work “wet-into-wet”, directly applying the colors as he or she observes them. In this One-Day course we will paint a simple still life from start to finish, using a traditional academic method. We will learn to block-in the shapes and proportions, how to mix paint and color-match, and how to apply the paint with boldness and accuracy. Alla-Prima painting is an excellent course for anyone interested in gaining confidence with a brush.

 Everything you want to know about Portraiture in a Day-
$125 Non-Member/ $100 Member

January 27th, Saturday, 9:00am – 4:00pm

This One-Day course will teach you everything you want to know about portraiture in a day. Composition, proportions, shape-design, anatomy, light, form, emotion – we will cover everything, from start to finish. We will begin with tips for set-up and composition, how to choose flattering lighting and pose for your subject. Next we will explore how to block-in the proportions and features with accuracy, to capture likeness. Lastly, we will learn how to use tone to create a light affect and a realistic sense of form, bringing everything to a finish.  For anyone who wants to learn everything there is to know about portraiture, this is the course for you.

Evening with a Figure/$35

Whether you are an established artist or just have the desire to draw you will find this to be a very relaxing and therapeutic evening. You bring your favorite bottle of wine, and we will supply the cheese and crackers. Working from a nude female model we will explore some of the basic rules, and techniques of figure drawing.

Nude Models – Must be at least 18 years old.

Materials List:  If you have drawing supplies please brings them. Otherwise you are welcome to use what we have available.
